Wish upon a star
“When you wish upon a star…”
Does that song trigger memories for you? It takes me back to a lot of happy memories like Ego to his childhood dinner table in Ratatouille.
When I went to Disneyland with my family after the pandemic, we were asked if we could still feel the magic deep inside. That sense of wonder and hope. And you know what? I could!
“…Makes no difference who you are…”
It’s silly right? Just a childish wish for things to change.
Except maybe it’s not. Maybe Walt Disney was on to something. Those stories touch something deeper in us. A longing. I still get tears in my eyes when Moana sings: “This is not who you are / You know who you are.”
The problem may not be that we dream too big. Perhaps it’s that we dream too small. Accept the limits placed on us, or that we place on ourselves. Settle. For a higher paycheck, shipping another cool product, or surviving the week.
“…When you wish upon a star…”
I’m not telling you to just keep wishing and waiting. Wishing can be a trap; but it can also be a signal. A sign of something deeper. So I’m asking you to consider listening to that little voice inside you.
It might be trying to lead you to something better. More meaningful. For you, your family, your community, your company, or the world. A different way to live (whether your circumstances change or not.)
“…your dreams, come… true?”
Do you have a secret dream? One that feels fragile? That scares you a little bit? If so, what are you doing about that? And how can I help?
Because that’s what I’m here for. To help you listen to yourself. Stop waiting. Find a path forward.
If this tapped into something, please let me know how I can support you on your journey. After all: while the princess always makes it, she never succeeds alone.
